Politics in America is,
in large part, one more form of televised entertainment; so a jump to
the big screen is a natural progression. At the outset of Waking the
Dead (2000), versatile leading man Billy Crudup is a budding
politician whose motives for seeking elected office appear to be
suitably idealistic and liberal. The woman in his life, the gallingly
contrary and disturbingly contoured Jennifer Connelly, is a brash
iconoclast whose nasty mouth pulls no punches. Hows Billy ever
going to win an election with a controversialist like Connelly at his
side? Conveniently, she dies. Life goes on. Except that eight years
later, Jennifer seems to be alive and back in Billys life again.
